The Top 10 Albums of 2011 by MarkeeToast
These are the top 10 albums of 2011 by our columnist MarkeeToast. Happy new year!
10 – Evanescence – Evanescence
Evanescence returned after a long time with a smooth album, full of hits, a concert in Brazil and played a lot in my walkman. Highlights: Made Of Stone, Sick, Swimming Home.
Destaques: Made Of Stone, Sick e Swimming Home.
9 – Eric And Magill – All Those I Know
An intimist record that could change your humor on a boring trip without company. Indie, soft and full of great arrangements. The album was released on 2010/12/31, so its part of the 2011 list. Highlights: All Those I Know (!), Gentle, Polite, I Hear Trumpets.
Destaques: All Those I Know (!), Gentle, Polite e I Hear Trumpets.
8 – Death Cab For Cutie – Codes & Keys
I had given up of expecting something from DCFC, but Codes & Keys got me since the first time i’ve listened to it. Easy listening with a characteristic musicality, but with a different approach – a much more optimistic one. Highlights: Home Is A Fire, You’re a Tourist, Underneath The Sycamore.
Destaques: Home Is A Fire, You’re a Tourist e Underneath The Sycamore.
7 – Jeremy Larson – They Reappear
An album that surprised me since it’s first track. Great arrangements and an incredibly well-articulated, sensitive, soft and intimist proposition. I spent much time listening to this record. Highlights: Descending, Bedside Manner, Stirring.
Destaques: Descending, Bedside Manner e Stirring.
6 – Staind – Staind
What happened to these guys? They said that this would be their heavier album to date. Said and done! A heavy and strong album in every way. Surprising! Highlights: Eyes Wide Open, Failing, Paper Wings (of course!).
Dito e feito! Disco pesadão em todos os aspectos! Surpreendente! Destaques: Eyes Wide Open, Failing e Paper Wings (claro!).
5 – Fair To Midland – Arrows & Anchors
After some time without showing up, Fair to Midland is back and better than ever. Arrows & Anchors needs no comments. Highlights: Whiskey And Ritalin, Uh-Oh, Rikki Tikki Tavi.
Destaques: Whiskey And Ritalin, Uh-Oh e Rikki Tikki Tavi.
4 – The Kills – Blood Pressures
I must confess that i’m not a big fan of bands like The Kills, but Blood Pressures is charismatic and non-exhausting in relation to so many albums of this genre. I’ve got addicted to this album. Highlights: Heart Is A Beating Drum (!), Nail In My Coffin(!), You Don’t Own The Road.
Destaques: Heart Is A Beating Drum (!), Nail In My Coffin(!) e You Don’t Own The Road.
3 – Stateless – Matilda
I’ve played this record so many times i can’t count. The whole thing is experimental here. Each track, one proposition. It goes from the most psychedelic track to an epic pop with synthesized beats. I won’t say much more because i could write three reviews about it. Highlights: Curtain Call (!!), I’m On Fire (!), Song For The Outsider (!!).
Destaques: Curtain Call (!!), I’m On Fire (!) e Song For The Outsider (!!).
2 – Radiohead – The King Of Limbs
This is not exactly rock, is it? But as Radiohead was born as a rock band I must comment about one of my most played albums of the year. This “wrong” compass on “new Radiohead’s” sonority catches me in every ways. The songs on this record are all weird, but they’re all founded on music theory. All well-made songs. Highlights: Bloom (!), Little By Little (!), Lotus Flower.
Destaques: Bloom (!), Little By Little (!) e Lotus Flower.
1 – Puscifer – Conditions Of My Parole
Mr. Maynard and company made the album of the year. From cute electronic ballads to crushing rock songs, this album introduced a new Puscifer. A better one. Take a look on my review. Highlights: Monsoons, Horizons, Toma (!!!).
Mr. Maynard e cia. fizeram o disco do ano. E melhor. Veja a resenha. Destaques: Monsoons, Horizons e Toma (!!!).
