10 – Foster the People – Torches
The indie rock album of the year. A debut full of energy and great hits that, even repeating the same old formulas, was able to differentiate Foster the People from so many similar bands.
O disco de indie rock do ano. Um debut cheio de energia e ótimos hits, que mesmo repetindo fórmulas já desgastadas, conseguiu se diferenciar das outras tantas bandas do mesmo gênero.
9 – Thrice – Major/Minor
I admire Thrice’s ability to recycle and reinvent themselves on each new album. Even not reaching the same level from their best records, Major/Minor is a great album that deserves to be among the best releases of the year.
Admiro muito a capacidade do Thrice de se reciclar e se reinventar em cada novo trabalho. Mesmo não alcançando o nível de seus melhores discos, Major/Minor é mais um grande disco que merece sim estar entre os grandes lançamentos do ano.
8 – Staind – Staind
Staind was one of many bands that got lost in their own style, but they bounced back and released a heavier album that easily stands out from their latest albums.
Uma das tantas bandas que havia se perdido em seu próprio estilo, mas conseguiu dar a volta por cima e lançar um disco mais pesado, que se destaca facilmente dos álbuns mais recentes.
7 – Blink-182 – Neighborhoods
After so many ups and downs on Blink-182′s career, their comeback sounded to me as an excuse to earn money. But what we listen in Neighborhoods is one of the most honest comebacks I’ve heard in recent times. An album that doesn’t try to emulate their funny first records, and walks free through the sound of each member’s side projects.
Depois de tantos altos e baixos na carreira da banda, a história da volta aos palcos e estúdios me soava puro caça níqueis. Mas o que ouvimos em Neighborhoods é uma das voltas mais honestas que ouvi nos últimos tempos. Um disco que não tenta repetir o sucesso bem humorado dos primeiros discos, e passeia livremente pela sonoridade dos projetos paralelos de cada integrante.
6 – Cruz – Volume 1
This isn’t the first brazilian band that moves to the US to record an album and try to reach the international market. But I can’t remember another band with such an honest and modern sound like Cruz. It’s a modern hard rock, with english lyrics and a great production. A great debut!
Este não é o primeiro caso de uma banda brasileira que se muda para os EUA para gravar um disco e tentar a sorte no mercado internacional. Mas não lembro de uma banda com um som tão honesto e atual como a Cruz. É hard rock bem moderno, cantado em inglês e com uma sonoridade muito bem produzida. Um grande debut!
5 – 3 Doors Down – Time Of My Life
That very old story of the “more of the same” that still hasn’t lost the power. Despite releasing records with the same style since the beginning, 3 Doors Down seems to improve and refine their style on each new album. And this is, with no doubt, one of their best albums to date!
Aquela velha história do “mais do mesmo” que ainda não perdeu a força. Apesar de lançar discos mantendo o mesmo estilo desde o início de carreira, o 3 Doors Down parece aperfeiçoar e refinar o seu trabalho a cada lançamento. Este é, sem dúvidas, um dos melhores trabalhos da banda até aqui!
4 – Blue October – Any Man In America
Perhaps the most emotional album of the year, and one of the best from the band in my opinion. With such deep and personal lyrics, listen to the entire record it’s almost a disturbing experience!
Talvez o disco mais emocional do ano, e um dos melhores da banda na minha opinião. Com letras extremamente pessoais, ouvir o disco na íntegra chega a ser uma experiência quase perturbadora!
3 – The Decemberists – The King Is Dead
I didn’t knew much of this band, and the record took me by surprise with so many diversity on the same album. A rock that walks easilly through folk, country and even pop.
Conhecia pouco da banda e o disco me pegou completamente desprevenido, com tanta diversidade de gêneros no mesmo álbum. Um rock que passeia pelo folk, pelo country e até pelo pop com muita facilidade.
2 – Panic! At The Disco – Vices & Virtues
After an original and different debut, the band followed new paths in the second album, almost resulting on the end of its activities. Half of the band decided to part ways, and their third record is a return to the original style. Definitely is a great return!
Após um primeiro disco com uma sonoridade bastante original e diferenciada, a banda seguiu novos caminhos no segundo trabalho, quase resultando no encerramento de suas atividades. Metade da banda resolveu seguir outro caminho, e o terceiro disco retomou o caminho original da banda. Uma grande volta!
1 – Foo Fighters – Wasting Light
Few bands actually delivers what they promise when recording their new record. With Foo Fighters, comments that would be their best and heavier album since “The Colour And The Shape” didn’t stop to pop up online. And for our surprise they really mean it! After a sequence of similar and unoriginal records, Wasting Light came to put the band on the spotlight again, and make them one of the biggest rock bands in scene today. A powerful and breathtaking record from start to finish!
Poucas bandas realmente cumprem o que tanto prometem quando estão gravando seu novo disco. No caso do Foo Fighters, os comentários de que seria o melhor e mais pesado disco desde “The Colour and The Shape” não paravam de aparecer na internet. Mas não é que eles estavam dizendo a verdade? Após uma sequência de discos musicalmente parecidos e quase sem graça, Wasting Light chegou para colocar a banda nos holofotes outra vez e transformá-los em uma das maiores bandas de rock da atualidade. Um disco poderoso e empolgante do começo ao fim!
