Foo Fighters‘ new album ‘Wasting Light’ was certainly one of the most anticipated albums of 2011. Every Foo Fighters’ album sold million copies, but when Dave Grohl announced that he would work with producer Butch Vig (from the timeless ‘Nevermind’) and the participation of Krist Novoselic (former Nirvana’s bassist), all expectations were launched into the stratosphere. After an agonizing wait is finally time for ‘Wasting Light’ hit the stores, and the questions are: the album fulfils the expectation created over its tremendous hype? This possibly could be the new ‘Nevermind’?
Despite the large number of excellent singles, all Foo Fighters’ albums after ‘The Colour & The Shape’ are not exactly brilliant. But ‘Wasting Light’ certainly is. Explosive guitar riffs, like “Bridge Burning”, “Rope” and “White Limo”, are such as heavy as “Monkey Wrench”, while Grohl’s intense vocals and lyrics in “Walk” are similar to “My Hero”. Excluding maybe “I Should Have Known”, the weakest song on the album, everything here is fantastic and incredibly catchy.
Answering first paragraph’s question, expecting ‘Wasting Light’ to be as good as ‘Nevermind’ or ‘The Colour & The Shape’ is just unfair, and can ruin your experience listening to the album. While Grohl perhaps never beats his masterpieces of the nineties, we can certainly say that, regardless any expectations, ‘Wasting Light’ is more than just nostalgia: it’s his best set of songs in almost fifteen years.

Embora todos os álbuns da banda sejam sucessos absolutos de venda, quando Dave Grohl anunciou que trabalharia com o produtor Butch Vig (do antológico ‘Nevermind’) e que o disco teria a participação de Krist Novoselic (ex-baixista do Nirvana), todas as expectativas foram lançadas à estratosfera. Após um angustiante tempo de espera finalmente ‘Wasting Light’ chegou às lojas, e as perguntas que todos fazemos é: o enorme hype em cima do disco é justificável? Temos aqui um novo ‘Nevermind’?
Apesar da grande quantidade de singles excelentes, todos os álbuns do Foo Fighters após ‘The Colour & The Shape’ não chegam a ser exatamente brilhantes. Mas ‘Wasting Light’ certamente é. Riffs explosivos de guitarra, como em “Bridge Burning”, “Rope” e “White Limo”, trazem um peso comparável a “Monkey Wrench”, enquanto em “Walk” ouvimos Grohl cantando com emoção similar a “My Hero”. Salvo “I Should Have Known”, que está um pouco abaixo do resto do álbum, todas as músicas são fantásticas e incrivelmente empolgantes.
